Wireless Best Practices
AirMedia Connect devices communicate with compatible AirMedia Series 3 Receivers using a point to point (Wi-Fi Direct) connection. Wireless performance depends upon a variety of conditions in the environment.
Consider the following guidelines and best practices to ensure a consistent and reliable experience.
Physical Factors
-
Maximum Distance: The maximum range from the Connect device to the receiver varies based on environmental conditions, but Crestron recommends that the Connect device operate within 80 ft (24m) of the receiver.
-
Wireless Interference: Ensure that there are no obstructions between the Connect device and receiver that could create wireless interference. Line of sight visibility from Connect device to receiver is ideal.
-
External Antennas (AM-3200-WF(-I) only): With the receiver powered off, connect the included external antennas. If the receiver is mounted behind a display, position the antennas near the bottom or sides of the display.
Network Settings
The following settings can be adjusted in the AirMedia receiver web configuration. For details, refer to Network.
-
Wi-Fi Frequency: AirMedia receivers can be set to 2.4GHz Only or 5GHz Only (default). The 5GHz generally enables higher throughput, but 2.4GHz enables wider distance.
-
Wi-Fi Channel: By default, the AirMedia receiver automatically selects a Wi-Fi channel. To improve reliability, use a Wi-Fi analyzer to determine the least crowded channel. Select the channel with the least traffic.
-
Wi-Fi Access Point Signal Strength: Set the signal strength to 100% for best results. In building layouts with multiple AirMedia systems and other Wi-Fi devices in close proximity, balance the signal strength as needed.
